Certain Stars jewellery is designed to be worn and enjoyed. With a little straightforward care, sterling silver and the other materials we use will retain their character and appearance for years to come.
Sterling silver
Sterling silver is a durable precious metal that naturally develops character with wear.
Over time, silver can tarnish as it reacts with the surrounding environment. Regularly worn silver jewellery is often less prone to noticeable tarnishing, as everyday wear helps keep the surface bright.
When you’re not wearing it, store your jewellery somewhere clean and dry, ideally separately from other pieces to help prevent scratching.
As with most jewellery, avoid exposure to chlorine, household chemicals and other harsh products.
Oxidised silver
Many Certain Stars pieces use oxidisation to create darker areas, adding depth and contrast to the design.
This darker finish is intentional and forms part of the character of the piece.
Avoid silver dips and aggressive chemical cleaners on oxidised pieces.
Oxidised finishes may evolve subtly with regular wear. This natural development is part of the way the jewellery becomes your own.
Enamel
Colour is an important part of several Certain Stars designs.
Our enamel detailing is designed for normal wear but, as with any decorative jewellery finish, benefits from sensible care. Avoid abrasive cleaning products and unnecessary contact with hard surfaces.
For everyday cleaning, gently wipe with a soft cloth.
Tahitian black mother of pearl
Tahitian black mother of pearl is a natural material, chosen for its depth, colour and changing iridescence.
Its appearance naturally varies from piece to piece, one of the things that makes each piece individual.
Mother of pearl is best cleaned gently with a soft cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners, silver dips and harsh chemicals, and take a little additional care to protect its surface from scratching.
Moldavite
Every piece of moldavite is naturally unique, with its own colour, inclusions and internal patterns.
Our faceted moldavite is set within sterling silver bezel settings that help protect the edges of the stone while allowing light to reveal its depth and natural character.
Moldavite is a natural glass and should be treated with the same sensible care you would give other stone set fine jewellery. For normal everyday wear, no special treatment is required.
We recommend removing moldavite rings during heavy manual work or activities where jewellery is likely to receive a significant direct impact. As with other natural stones and jewellery materials, a sufficiently heavy impact may cause damage.
To clean moldavite, use lukewarm water, mild soap and a soft cloth. Avoid ultrasonic or steam cleaning and harsh chemicals.
Natural inclusions, internal patterns and variations in colour are part of each moldavite stone’s individual character.
Wear it
Certain Stars jewellery isn’t designed to spend its life in a box.
Wear it. Let the silver develop character. Polish it when it needs it, look after the materials that need a little extra care, and expect the piece to become increasingly your own over time.
When you do take your jewellery off, store it somewhere clean and dry and give individual pieces enough space to avoid unnecessary scratching.
Designed to be worn. Made to be kept.
