How it’s made

From Broadstairs to Britain, and a few places in between.

Certain Stars jewellery begins with an idea.

Our designs are developed collaboratively, drawing inspiration from Broadstairs, the sea and sky around us, and the cultural influences that find their way into the Certain Stars world.

Turning those ideas into jewellery brings together a much wider group of people.

We work with technical specialists in CAD design, 3D printing, moulding and casting, alongside experienced British jewellers responsible for the finishing and detail that give each piece its final character. Specialist processes call for specialist hands: our enamel work is commissioned from skilled artisans, while stones are cut in London’s Hatton Garden by expert stone cutters.

Materials with a journey

We look beyond the conventional when choosing materials.

Our moldavite is sourced directly from miners in the Czech Republic, close to the deposits where this extraordinary impact glass has been found for generations. Black mother of pearl travels considerably further, originating in Tahiti before finding its way into our jewellery.

Alongside these materials sits sterling silver, substantial, tactile and made to be worn.

The result is an international journey of materials and ideas brought together by a team of specialists across the UK.

Made in Britain

Modern technology and traditional jewellery making sit side by side throughout the process.

An idea may move through drawings, digital modelling and 3D printing before being moulded and cast in silver. From there come the processes that turn a casting into a finished piece: refining, polishing, oxidising, enamelling, stone cutting and setting, depending on the design.

Some of those processes are precise and technical. Others depend on the eye and hand of the person doing them.

We think both matter.

Every Certain Stars piece is designed in Broadstairs and made in Britain, bringing together materials gathered from further afield with the skills of British jewellers, craftspeople and specialists.

Made by many hands. Made to be worn. Made in Britain.
